Tämä tuli mullekin mieleeni heti kun olin lukenut Inceptionin arvostelun, mutta enpä kirjoittanut mitään tänne. Hmm..

ihan totta ja Don Rosa eittämättä edelsi Dreamscape-elokuvan(1984) tekijäkaartiakin.
Tosin ottaen Rosa filmi/populaarikulttuuribuffiluonteen huomioon sieltähän vaikutteet on haettu.
Ovat kaikki kuitenkin omia kokonaisuuksiaan.

Rosa tulee Eurooppaan, ainakin Saksaan ja tuota kiertuetta varten on tehty ekslusiivinen Roope-patsas Rosan piirrosten pohjalta.

Minäkin joskus muistan nähneeni kuvan samanlaisesta patsaasta aikoinaan. Taisi olla netissä jossakin tai jossakin lehdessä.

Ei se minun mielestäni tuommoinen kuitenkaan ollut kuin tuo Timon laittama. Kuitenkin muistan väärin mutta sanoinpahan oman muistikuvani.

Onko Rosa tulossa Suomeen??

Eikös tuo ollut juuri se lukijan keksimä idea, jonka Rosa myöhemmin omien sanojensa mukaan huomasi pöllityn jostakin elokuvasta, ja lopetti juuri tuon takia ideoiden vastaanottamisen faneilta?

Tähän aiheeseen palaten. Näin juurikin on.
Rosa kirjoittaa Unelmoiden läpi elämän -tarinan (The Dream of a Lifetime) kommenteissaan (RAE&T 2) saaneensa idean ranskalaiselta fanilta ja kuinka oli ällistynyt nähdessään elokuvan The Cell vuosia myöhemmin. Perustarina ja idea on sama. Ranskalainen oli Rosan mukaan lähettänyt ideansa Rosalle kuukausi sen jälkeen, kun The Cell oli tullut ensi-iltaansa.

Italialaisella Papersera -foorumilla Rosa kommentoi Inceptionia:

It sounds like another typical modern American movie with gorgeous but overblown visual effects, brainless action sequences, and characters I wouldn't care about. But I enjoy eye-candy for what it is. I'll probably rent the DVD next year.

I tried browsing all the Internet chatter about the movie being based on or similar to my story, but finally I had to stop reading due to frustration caused by:

•How much gross misinformation about the matter is caused by careless
people getting factual details wrong, which spreads like a domino effect across the Internet,
screwing up all proper data about that story in particular and Donald Duck/Uncle Scrooge comics in general.

•How many commentators (virtually all American) have so low regard
for comics that they pooh-pooh the very idea as a farce, or don’t bother
to investigate any accurate data on the matter.

•How many commentators (virtually all American) know nothing about
$crooge comics (or that Disney comics even exist) and think this is all
about that “DuckTales"  TV series and nothing more.

•How many sites show a link to the on-line story which contains no
other links to show anyone anything about Disney/Barks/Duck comics
or anything else, so that they are getting one iota of info in the midst
of a vast desert of ignorance. Also, the site does not give any info about
when and how the story was created or published or has appeared.
(Or WHO wrote & drew it!)

As for whether the movie swiped ideas from my story, fortunately I don't need to worry about that. That story is not my property -- it belongs
to Disney. If they decide to sue the INCEPTION people and make millions more $ off my story, I would not see a cent of it. I'm used to that.

Jos tuota Paperseran foorumia lukee tuosta em. kohdasta eteenpäin, törmää vähemmän tunnettuihin Rosan sarjakuviin, joista hän itse kertoo näin:

I created "Phalanx" around 1972 with my college history professor, John Scarborough -- his class was an elective course I took during my civil engineering studies at the University of Kentucky. He had said something during a class which indicated he knew and liked comics -- probably something about Uncle $crooge or EC comics. So I struck up a freindship with him and he and I shared many thoughts about Barks stories, especially the discovery of the censored barroom brawl sequence from "Back to the Klondike" of which I had received copies from a friend at the time.
We decided it would be fun to create that daily newspaper strip based in ancient Greece (his special field of knowledge) which would be a comedy-adventure somewhat like "Asterix" but a tad less cartoony. We both wrote it and I drew it. We were doing this with NO idea about how to market a comic strip, what the papers were looking for, or HOW we would be able to produce the strip if anybody wanted it. It was just for fun, I guess. I submitted it to the local (Lexington) newspaper and the editor rejected it saying "we gear our comics towards a lower mentality". After all, we were trying to do "Prince Valiant" in the new era of "Garfield". I would have really enjoyed continuing that strip -- but as I say, there would have been no time to do it during my engineering studies or afterwards when I was busy with the Keno Rosa Co.

Besides that, I once did two sword & sorcery adventure stories based on the scripts written by a girl I had met who lived in the apartment building I moved into after I left home. (Just a friend! No hanky-panky!) I learned that she had a drug problem and I was trying to get her interested in something else that would maybe give her life some meaning. These were very serious style stories, though my art always has a weird "MAD MAGAZINE" look to it. I did these stories around 1977 and they appeared in early issues of THE COMICS JOURNAL. No pay, just for fun. I refused any offered payment for any work I used to do "as a fan" -- I thought that accepting any form of payment for something I was doing as a hobby would somehow taint it.
Anyway, it didn't help her. I learned a few years later she died of a drug overdose, a possible suicide resulting from anxiety after her younger sister was married.

And, of course, I did hundreds of other comics when I was younger, filling booklets that I still have. Never published... just for my private amusement. For example, I did my own versions of Barks' "The Old Castle's Secret" and "The Golden Helmet" using my own characters.

There might have been one or two other published comics, if I think about it.

Sain Rosalta mailia että hän saapuu Suomeen marraskuussa singneeraamaan kirjaansa ainakin Lahteen,kai se on sinnementävä jos ei lähemmäksi tule.

Muutama vissiinkin kyseli hänen saapumistaan.

Itse arvasin osittain tämän, sillä osasihan sen oikeastaan jo päätellä, kun kerta uusi kirja tulee. AInahan se on tullut, kun on kirjanen ilmestynyt...
Itse tahtoisin nimmarin, mutta en minä Lahteen pääse täältä Pohjois-Karjalasta, eikä äiti taatusti sen takia kuskaa (-_-), mutta jos Joensuuhun tulisi, niin ehkä sitten. Pitää lisää tietoa odotella asiasta, kai minäkin joskus sen nimmarin vielä huoneen seinälle vaikkapa saan. (=

Onhan herraa tullut käytyä katsomassa 4 kertaa ja jokakerran on jonot olleet lyhyemmät kaikilla se nimmari on jo kymmeniinkertoihin...

Kaikkien pitäisi sitten vielä hyötyä siitä rahallisesti niin en oikeintiedä,mutta vimekerralla sai piirroksia porukanvähyydentakia aika kivuttomasti.

Tietääkö kukaan, kuka Rosan on tällä kertaa kutsunut? Entä osaako kukaan sanoa, kannattaako kirjan osto jättää sitten sinne Lahteen? Aiemmin kun on tuntunut olevan niitä sääntöjä: "Nimmari vasta kun jotain on ostettu" jne.
