This one is from later Still, look at those pencil drawings!! That Hermann knows his shit. MILLER, FRANK: SIN CITY 7  (http://www.pitkamies.net/kauppa/shop.php?id=624)- Wallace on mystinen mies. Hän on mukava kaveri, hyvä ihmisten tappamisessa. Hän tapaa ilta-ajelullaan unelmiensa naisen  joka yrittää tappaa itsensä. Helvetti on pääsemässä valloilleen... Takaisin helvetistä pursuaa brutaalia toimintaa, pimeitä salaisuuksia ja sankarillista uhrautumista. Mitä helvettiä  kyseessähän on rakkaustarina! 6,50€

MUSTURI, TOMMI: KOLMAS TOIVON KIRJA: UNI TOIVOSTA  (http://www.pitkamies.net/kauppa/shop.php?id=1431)- Uni Toivosta on villiin länteen sijoittuva apokalyptinen tarina pistoolisankari Jackistä. Vain omia lakejaan noudattava Jack on päähenkilömme kuvitteellinen omakuva - kaikkivaltias tuhon lähettiläs, jonka tieltä lankeavat niin viholliset kuin ystävätkin. Kolmannessa Toivon kirjassa Musturi piirtää filosofisen miehen kuvan, joka yltää elokuvan sankareista aina laiskanlinnan pohjalle. 14€


SATRAPI, MARJANE: PERSEPOLIS 1 (http://www.pitkamies.net/kauppa/shop.php?id=1096) - Lapsena Marjane halusi profeetaksi: ensimmäiseksi hän säätäisi, ettei isoäidin jalkoja saa enää särkeä. Myöhemmin Jumala vaihtui Marxin oppeihin vasemmistoälymystöön kuuluvien vanhempien vaikutuksesta.. 22€

Only a couple of things: I have gotten a bunch of comics from the Closed Caption Comics group, which is a group of art students doing nice silkscreened stuff and minicomics: They however never loose sight of the story so all these comics are actually enjoyable not only as a visual rollercoaster but a nice reading experience as well. Some people have compared them to the new generation of Fort Thunder but i wouldn't go so far.


Katja Tukiainen Works (28€)

A beautifully produced book that showcases Katja Tukiainens paintings from 1999-2007. Alongside the razorsharp reproduction of the paintings, the artist has given a detailed explanation about the background of her work in her nice handwriting. The text is in Finnish, English and French. I have a limited supply of signed copies of this hardcover picturebook.

A minimal newspaper tabloid by Paper Rad. There's only 2,5 good jokes, but then it's only 2,5€. not their best and maybe not the best place to start your Paper Rad collection but for those who have already some of their stuff, 2,5 euros is easily put on the table. You can barely get a coffee for that money in Helsinki (slight exaggeration)

A nice full colour silkscreen cover and an intrueging yet funny anecdotal story on the inside; that's all i need in an art mini-comic. This little beauty is about badly drawn muscle man who are doing a lot of physical exercise until one bodybuilder does something outragous. "That's why we are at muscle camp!"

I got a bunch of comics from the Closed Caption Comics collective and this was my favourite one storywise. The story in a nutshell: machoism gets punished in a very cruel way. Or even shorter: jocks versus demons. Cool art with cool story. Recommended

Manga meets fort thunder? Nah, that's a pretty lame description. Let's put it like this: "screenprinted and letter pressed pop out covers, 69 pages, edition of 120, come feel the magic, llort magic".I especially liked the coverpages which were outfoldable...

An all hand printed comic, 8 pages of full color silkscreaming. Numbered edition of 50. The story of a young man venturing into the wild world against the advice of a curmudgeonly elder. Two simultaneous stories. Man and boy converse over porridge while the action takes place below. Beautiful stuff.

It began with hippie-piss-stained mattress exercise and a scroned bone of a snake.
Quite quickly cults were formed & disease followed. These images clip the nip, but all has yet to be revealed... 4 color screenprinted, narrative, cheatsheet, etc. Simply gorgeous. Limited to 50. Signed & hand numbered

Thank god, they have come to their senses and pulled Frank Santoro from his drawing table and let the art be done by somebody else, in this case John Vermileya. One shot issue on tabloid format. Chillin' in the woods with her music gets weird for a girl. But things turn serious when her Walkman gets busted.

Okay so i have two copies of Anders Nilsens "Don't go where i can't follow" in my store now, one new and one second hand.
As you may know Anders is visiting Helsinki for the festival and this particular book is his best work to date and will move your stone cold cynical heart to tears.
In short, the book is a collection of poetic postcards, pictures and comicstories about the relationship with Nilsen and his fiancee who suddenly died of cancer...

Unfortunately the book is sold out and since Anders doesn't want these books to be reprinted, they are rather hard to come by.

I have now two copies, one new one which i bought from Kreegah and one secnd hand which is actually way more expensive and has coffee stains and such (ofcourse, Pitkämies likes that added touch of reality but i assume not everybody does),

Just in the store : "Complete haunt of fear" (Second hand)

in 5 books in a nice slipcase. This is the 1981 edition,a reprint of all EC's Haunt of fear magazines from 1950-1954. Original covers and in black and white (no ugly coloring!).

edit: I forgot to mention but the Pitkämies store always carries the latest Vice or Adbusters. This month both are quite interesting since Adbusters has a nice article of "the death of the hipster" which critices the idolised image of young people that magazines like Vice try to uphold. And on the other hand there is the new Vice issue which has a nice interview with Lynda Barry.

This is probably one of the best comics of the "lighter" genre that ever came out in the eighties. Pitkämies is digging it! great art, great stories, great entertainment.

Porcellino: Thoreau at Walden 18€. Even though i mentioned it already earlier, i have gotten now a few more copies of that book. And i tell you, it's nice. Thoreau was a 19th century author who was one of the first to actively seek out a self sustaining lifestyle. He went to live near some pond to grow beans and vegetables and worked about 6 weeks a year . The rest of his time he contemplated and wrote. He was also one of the first philospohers who voluntarily went to jail as sign of protest against the wars america was fighting. All this in the simple delicious lines of John Porcellino.

Sarjakuvakeskuksella järjestetään sarjakuvan tekstauskurssi 10.11 ja 17.11. Kurssi pitää sisällään 2 kahden tunnin opetuskertaa ja tehtäviä. Kurssin opettajana toimii tekstaaja Mikko Huusko. Hinta, joka sisältää tarvikkeet, on 10 euroa. Kurssille otetaan 15 ensimmäisenä ilmoittautunutta.

On siinä varmaan ironiaakin(liian kilttiä ja huomaamatonta vittuiluksi), mutta kaikille sarjakuvanteko-oppaille on hyvä olla tilaa tuosta Lee Buscemasta omaan oppaasesi  ja Ahlqvist-Kutilaan ja Piirrä Mangaa pokkareihin.
Toisille on enemmän hyötyä "viivoittimenkäyttöoppaasta" (© roju) toiset kaipailee  drawing words writing pictures-opusta joka on minusta epäkelpo(sisällössä on asiaa ja hyviä ohjeita, mutta jestas sitä on yritetty peitellä yligraafisella käyttöhaitalla).

The story, which unfolds in 1980, follows the triumphs and travails of one colorful young man, Otto, who lives in the family-owned trailer park on the outskirts of recession-ravaged Akron, Ohio, the Rubber City. Otto backs into Akron’s punk counter-culture, an unlikely and lively punk rock scene that spawned distinctive acts such as Devo, Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders and so many other groups that Melody Maker referred to Akron as “the new Liverpool.” By chance and through talent, wit and sheer force of personality, Otto soon becomes a local star. He chases fame and love and has memorable encounters with punk luminaries such as The Clash’s Joe Strummer, Wendy O. Williams of The Plasmatics and rock scribe Lester Bangs.

Jotkut teistä ovatkin jo ehkä kuulleet, että Sarjakuvakeskus on muuttamassa
tiloistaan toisaalle. Pääsyy muutolle on putkiremontti. Uunituoreiden uutisten
mukaan muutto tulee tapahtumaan heinäkuussa 2010.

Samaan aikaan toisaalla: Pitkämies laajentaa toimenkuvaansa! Aivan niin,
avaan uuden liikkeen Helsingissä – Pitkämies ottaa valtaansa Myymälä2:n
liiketilan.

Myymälä2 on taidegalleria Uudenmaankadulla, kuvainnollisesti ja
kirjaimellisesti ainoa underground-galleria koko Helsinki Design
Districtin alueella. Näin ollen täydellinen aisapari Pitkämiehelle.

Tälläkin hetkellä uutta liikettä laitetaan uuteen uskoon, jotta sen tunnelma
vastaisi Kallion liikkeen tunnelmaa. Liikkeen nimi tulee luonnollisesti
olemaan Pitkämies2. Uusi liike tulee keskittymään enemmän
taidesarjakuvaan, mutta tarjoaa myös terveellisen valikoiman graafisia
romaaneja ja maittavan kattauksen suomalaisia ruutusivuniteitä. Musiikkia ja
vaatetusta tulee tietenkin myös olemaan saatavilla. Tapahtumat ja konsertit
myös tulevat tapahtumaan siellä tällä erää (ensimmäisenä esiintyjänä Ben
Butler and Mousepad 8.5.2010). Siispä liike on mukava sidekick Pitkämiehelle
mutta tulee seikkailemaan myös itsenäisissä spin-offeissa.

Varsinaiset avajaiskinkerit pidetään 14.5., mutta liike avaa ovensa jo 5.5.
